Finally finished the Wainwrights! For non-hillwalkers, that's 214 fells in the Lake District that were written about by Alfred Wainwright back in the 50's and 60's.
Jo and Irene (the founder members of the Grinton Harriers) managed to get round the Richmond Castle 10k in one piece. The rain didn't manage to dampen their spirits and along with 500 other brave souls, they tackled what is reportedly one of the hilliest courses in the UK. Trust Jo to pick this as her first 10K! They raised £300 for St Theresa's Hospice in Darlington so all in a good cause.
The preparations for the Grand Depart are starting to gather a pace here in Swaledale. I'm lucky to be part of the local team that's organising the promotion and marketing and we're still gathering ideas about how to make this once in a lifetime event the best it can be for visitors, residents and businesses. There's still alot of information to be confirmed, but the rumours of 30,000 visitors in Swaledale alone is an exciting (and slightly daunting) prospect! The next meeting is on 27th November, so please share any ideas and I'll take them along for discussion!
